Electrification is the process of switching from burning carbon-based fuels to using electrical power as an energy source. Electrification is beneficial when our power company is able to supply us with (cleaner) electricity that produced less CO2 and other pollutants than does burning those fuels. Fortunately, that is now the case in our area, and both Tri-State and SMPA are committed to further increasing renewable energy at a rapid rate. Tri-State has pledged by 2030 to end generation of electricity with coal in Colorado and to reduce the carbon emissions of all Colorado-generated electricity by 90%.

Why Electrify? While, electrification is almost always beneficial for our world, whether you chose electrification over carbon-based fuels like gas is often a more complex equation involving cost, *efficiency, reliability, your concern for the environment, and other factors. Fortunately, all-things-electric are improving rapidly and, coupled with falling prices and monetary incentives, electrification is increasingly the best option. We hope the information we provide on this web site helps you in those decisions.
(*gas appliances lose 4% efficiency for every 1000 ft elevation, hence 28% less efficiency @ 7000 ft) |
And don't forget other energy savings!
Rewiring fluorescent fixtures & inserting LED bulbs (above) cuts energy use in half - and energy savings are even greater for conventional screw-in bulbs. |
