Water
Aridification and emerging megadrought, words that describe the severe climate change that the entire Western United States is experiencing according to the US Department of Agriculture SW Climate Hub. Scientists believe the period from 2000-2021 has been the driest 22 years since the year 800. Water conservation is now an existential requirement for everyone, even for those living at the headwaters of the Colorado River. We all have a responsibility to not only conserve water but to educate our neighbors and friends about what can be done now.

> Colorado Water Rules and Regulations:
A Colorado Water Conservation Plan is published by the Colorado Water Conservation Board.
CO Graywater: Graywater is the water from baths, sinks, washing machines and other kitchen appliances and is generally considered relatively clean. Currently, the use of graywater is illegal in Colorado - but CO Regulation 86: Graywater Control Regulation is being reviewed in 2023 by the CO Water Quality Control Commission. However, even if that regulation is updated, more steps will be required before graywater can be legally used in CO according to Graywater, published by the CO Dept of Public Health and Environment. (The Colorado State Plumbing Board is developing regulations to govern "Laundry to Landscape" systems.)
CO Rainwater Collection and Rain Barrels: Under certain conditions, residential rainwater is now allowed in CO. Read more in the Co Division of Water Resources link Rainwater, Stormwater, and Graywater.
A New CO Water Reuse Rule, providing regulations for how water must be treated to be re-used as drinking water, is briefly described in this 2-2023 Colorado Newsline article.
